The BeST Design awards are presented annually by the Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ) to showcase and celebrate the best work the design industry has to offer across the disciplines of product, spatial (interior) and graphic design. They were presented at a black tie event, attended by around 600 of the country’s leading creative professionals, in Auckland on 10 October.
The innovative HUM – Minds at Work workspace system won Formway a Stringer Award, the supreme award for outstanding achievement. Only six of the prestigious Stringers have been awarded for product design in the past 11 years.
HUM also won Formway the Gold award in the Product – Furniture category and the Gold Sustainable Product Award, where it took top honours after competing against all other product categories.
The name HUM symbolises the sound of productivity and of a team working well together and was designed to capitalise on the global demand for collaborative workspaces.
HUM – Minds at Work is the result of four years of R&D including customer research, extensive prototyping, external expert input, and bipartisan reviews, with the project team focused on producing an office system that would compete in the international furniture market. Customer research included hundreds of transcripts from customer interviews which were then analysed by organisational psychology and cognitive ergonomic experts.
