The star trio behind Sydney fave Bar Copains has opened a fire-powered Mediterranean restaurant in a historic Surry Hills building.

Set in a character-filled Surry Hills building, Bessie’s and Alma’s is the latest creation from the team behind Bar Copains, a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant defined by share plates, natural wines, and wood-fired cooking.

While there’s no wall between the bar and dining area, but a gentle shift from terrazzo to timber floors subtly defines the two. We were delighted to contribute The Fable Chair by Ross Didier, whose honest craftsmanship and warm American Oak tones, its honest design pairs beautifully with the venue’s refined yet rustic feel.

The design flows effortlessly from one space to the next, echoing the restaurants ethos, welcoming, unpretentious, and built to share.
