The experience that Simon Pengelly gained in his father’s craft workshop when he was young has played a crucial part in his training and his approach to design.
Pengelly’s creations have a strong artisan aspect when it comes to the interpretation of materials and comprehension of the way in which individuals use and interact with items. The hallmarks of Pengelly’s works are clean-cut, basic and light forms, which emerge from the simplification of processes behind all of his designs.
After graduating from Kingston Polytechnic in 1988, Pengelly set up a London-based studio in 1993. He now works with numerous leading names on the international design scene.
In 2011, Pengelly won a coveted Compasso d’Oro design award.
